In addition to
being a Civil War soldier and prisoner, Eby was an author and an artist.
He authored a book entitled, Observations of an Illinois Boy in Battle,
Camp and Prisons - 1861 to 1865. It tells of his experiences in
battle, camp and prisons with Company C of 7th Illinois Cavalry.
The
Mendota Museum & Historical Society had this book republished in 2003. The
copies sold exceeding well and MMHS will be publishing more copies of the
book with the author's picture on the front cover.
The picture on the right is the only known photograph of Henry Eby. It was
recently purchased, by the curator of the Mendota Museum & Historical
Society, at a flea market.
