Bill Piller, William Piller Studio, P.O. Box 42, Mendota, IL 61342, has been commissioned by the Mendota Museum & Historical Society to produce a life size statue of James Butler (Wild Bill) Hickok. The statue will be based on a well-known photograph, pictured below, taken by W. Blakeslee, Opposite Passenger House in  Mendota, IL circa 1869. The process used to create this statue is called, "The Lost Wax Bronze Process". For a PDF file of this process click the picture to the right.

A budget of $26,000 has been set for this project. 96% of our budget has been received. The location will be in front of the Hume-Carnegie Museum.

The date has been set for the dedication of the Wild Bill Hickok Statue. It will be held on the 18th of October, 2008. The time will be 4:00 PM in Veteran's Park in front of the Hume-Carnegie Museum. Joseph Rosa, author and renowned authority on Hickok, will be the keynote speaker. Joseph lives in Middlesex, England. There will be no charge to attend this event.
